First-time director set to make The Lego Movie Sequel

Following the huge success of the original movie last year, Rob Schrab has been drafted in to helm The LEGO Movie Sequel. A veteran of TV comedy, the animated movie will mark the debut of the director on the big screen.

Schrab has been championed by Christopher Miller and Phil Lord, who will continue to write and produce the toy-based series but have decided not to stay on as directors. The duo said:

We are so excited to collaborate with Rob. He is a comedy genius, a visual savant, and we have been stalking him for years. No one works harder than Rob, and his aesthetic, combined with his sense of humor, bring a strong, unique, thoughtful, and passionately nerdy voice to this project. People who know him are slapping their foreheads today and saying, ‘Of course!’

Lord and Miller are also producing two other LEGO based spin-offs with Ninjago set for a 2016 release, followed by a Batman LEGO movie in 2017. In addition they will also be working on 23 Jump Street, which is currently mooted to be a Men in Black reboot.

Schrab is best known for Community, Parks and Recs and The Mindy Project.

We wonder if the LEGO Oscar can be worked into the movie somehow?
