The potent cocktail of fast cars, insane action set-pieces and sweaty bald men has scored a huge total of over $800m at the worldwide box-office for Furious 7 in only its second week on release.

Starring the late Paul Walker, the latest instalment in the blockbuster franchise has already beaten the entire run of Fast and Furious 6 at the American box-office, and will go past the international total in the next few days.

Its an impressive return studio Universal, with the film opening at number 1 in every territory it has hit so far. This includes the $68.8m it has earned in China on its opening day, a record breaking sum that has put the film well on track to beat the current all-time highest earner, Transformers 4: Age of Extinction.

Bulking up the already numbers for the series as a whole, Fast and Furious has made over $3 billion over the course of seven films. Audiences have lapped up the later instalments in particular, which have jettisoned the original undercover speed racing cops formula for outrageous stunts and bombastic set-pieces.

Jason Statham and Kurt Russell joined the returning cast this time out.

Expect even more big names to join the next film, which is set to roll into production soon.
