Gal Gadot says Wonder Woman will be straight as “she falls in love with a man”
Wonder Woman may now identify as gay in the DC Comics, but the movie won’t be following the same path for now.
Wonder Woman comics recently declared that the Amazonian princess has loved both men and women in her lifetime. But Gal Gadot, who plays the titular superhero, told Yahoo that the film won’t explore the same story:
“It’s not in the film. In the film, she falls in love with a man [Chris Pine’s Steve Trevor].
But in general — I read this article as well — I think Wonder Woman is all about heart, and she cares for people without paying too much attention to their gender. That’s an option – but we never experienced that.”
DC writer Greg Rucka recently explained why Wonder Woman in the comics must identify herself as gay:
“Themyscira is supposed to be paradise. You’re supposed to be able to live happily. And part of what an individual needs for that happiness is to have a partner – to have a fulfilling, romantic and sexual relationship. And the only options are women.
Now, are we saying Diana has been in love and had relationships with other women? As we approach it, the answer is obviously yes.”
Wonder Woman opens on June 2, 2017. Watch the trailer below:
