George Miller gives Mad Max: Fury Road sequel a title

Even though the brilliant Mad Max: Fury Road has been in cinemas less than a week (read our five-star review here), director George Miller already has plans in motion for a sequel.  ‘We’ve got one screenplay and a novella,’ he told Jeff Goldsmith on his podcast. ‘It happened because with the delays [with Fury Road] and writing all the backstories, they just expanded.’ And apparently the title of Max’s next outing will be Mad Max: The Wasteland.

This seems to go in a different direction to what the director has hinted at before, notably that the sequel was going to be called Mad Max: Furiosa, after the new film’s female protagonist played by Charlize Theron. And as you may already know, Tom Hardy has already signed on for multiple Mad Max films (three more, to be exact), which shows their confidence in getting The Wasteland going. Let’s just hope for two things: that it’s half as good as Mad Max: Fury Road, and that it doesn’t take another 30 years to get off the ground.
