La La Land the big winner at 74th Golden Globes ceremony

The awards season is in full swing in Hollywood and last night saw the 74th Golden Globes took take place in Los Angeles. Hosted by Jimmy Fallon (who started proceedings with an excellent La La Land-esque opening), the night was won, as many had predicted, by Damien Chazelle’s La La Land which went home with seven awards including Best Picture, Best Actor, Best Actress (comedy/musical for those three) and Best Screenplay.

Elsewhere, Barry Jenkins’ Moonlight won the Best Picture (Drama) award, Isabelle Huppert won Best Actress (Drama) for Paul Verhoeven’s Elle and Casey Affleck won Best Actor (Drama) for Manchester by the Sea. The night also saw Viola Davis win Best Supporting Actress for Fences while in something of a surprise, Aaron Taylor-Johnson won Best Supporting Actor for his performance in Tom Ford’s Nocturnal Animals.

The night also awarded the best in television, with The Night Manager the big winner with three awards (Best Actor, Best Supporting Actor and Best Supporting Actress in the mini-series categories) while Netflix’s The Crown won two awards for Best Drama and Best Actress in a Drama for Claire Foy.
