DC/Warner Bros set writers for Green Lantern Corps
If there’s one thing that is taking up a lot of interest on the internet in film world is the state of the DC/Warner Bros cinematic universe. After the mixed reviews (well, more negative than mixed) to both Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Suicide Squad and the rumoured problems with both Wonder Woman and Justice League, it seems that every day more and more doubts have started creeping into even the most ardent of fans.
But with news this week (we think) that Ben Affleck is definitely directing The Batman, the studios are continuing to push the universe forward and news from Deadline is that writers have been assigned to write the upcoming Green Lantern Corps in the form of David S. Goyer and Justin Rhodes. Goyer, as you may remember, was one of the writers on Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Trilogy and also penned Man of Steel in 2013 so it seems logical that he would be the go-to guy to help resurrect the Lantern brand, working from a story co-written by DCU head-honcho Geoff Johns.
There have been many attempts to bring Green Lantern back to the screen after the disastrous 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds, with the likes of Chris Pine (who co-stars in Wonder Woman) linked to a role as well as Tyrese Gibson (Fate of the Furious) and Common (Suicide Squad), both of whom were apparently very keen to be involved. No casting has yet been announced but a “Lethal Weapon-esque” style film is reportedly on the agenda.
Wonder Woman lands in cinemas on June 2nd; Justice League arrives on November 16th.
