The Guardians of the Galaxy are finally going to cross paths with the Avengers in the anticipated Infinity War. What’ll happen to Star-Lord, Groot, and the rest of the team after that, though?

Recent fan theories have speculated that the fourth Avengers movie, previously known as Infinity War Part 2, would mark the end of the Guardians. According to director James Gunn, however, this couldn’t be further from the truth.

The man behind Guardians of the Galaxy and its 2017 sequel confirmed on Twitter that the intergalactic gang will make it through the Infinity War and continue to protect the universe in a third installment.

Gunn additionally confirmed that it will be the same Guardians we know and love as apposed to a new cast.

Avengers: Infinity War hits theaters on May 4, 2018 while the currently untitled Avengers 4 comes out on May 3, 2019. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 has yet to set a release date, although there’s been speculation that it’ll arrive sometime in 2020.
