Great news for Scottish film fans as the Coen brothers’ latest picture Hail, Caesar! will be making its official UK bow north of the border. The Glasgow Film Festival will debut the film as its opening gala screening on February 17. The festival will also premiere another film with Charlie Kaufman’s Anomalisa closing the ceremony.
“We are absolutely delighted to be screening the Coens’ wonderful, all-star salute to Old Hollywood,” enthuses Allison Gardner, while her festival co-director Allan Hunter expressed similar views on the festival’s closing feature. “Anomalisa is a one of kind experience that finds incredible depths of human emotion in the plight of its stop-motion animated characters,” he adds.
Hail, Caesar! is set during one of the golden ages of the big studio system and focuses on private-detective-turned-movie-company-fixer Eddie Mannix (Josh Brolin), who tracks down and covers up scandals among contracted players and directors. Tickets for the Glasgow Film Festival go onsale on January 18th.
