Han Solo Movie: Woody Harrelson defends Alden Ehrenreich following reports of him struggling

Woody Harrelson has defended his co-star Alden Ehrenreich, following reports that the young Han Solo star has been struggling with his performance. Harrelson plays his mentor Beckett in the upcoming Star Wars spin-off, and praised Ehrenreich as “a great actor”:

“He’s a great actor and a great guy, [with a] great sense of humour. I think a lot of humour comes through what he’s doing. I think it could be one of the funnier Star Wars movies.” Harrelson told Entertainment Tonight.

LucasFilm were reportedly unhappy with Ehrenreich’s efforts, as according to The Hollywood Reporter, the studio decided to hire an acting coach for Ehrenreich far into the film’s production because they were “not entirely satisfied with the performance that the directors were eliciting from him”.

Troubles on set saw the departure of original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (who can been seen with the cast in the image above.) They were soon replaced by legendary director Ron Howard.

“Fortunately, the force is still very much with us. It’s great that Ron came along when he did.” Harrelson added.

The untitled Han Solo movie arrives on May 25, 2018.
