Harrison Ford and Steven Spielberg Back for Indiana Jones 5
There have been numerous rumors circulating about Indiana Jones 5 as of late. At one point, it was even speculated that the film would be a reboot with Chris Pratt taking over as Indy. Disney and Lucasfilm have now officially announced that Harrison Ford will return as everyone’s favorite adventurer. On top of that, Steven Spielberg is also coming back to direct. Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall are additionally set to produce. Although a writer has yet to be announced, Indiana Jones 5 is currently set to hit theaters on July 19th, 2019.
The chairman of the Walt Disney Studios, Alan Horn, discussed the project in a statement. “Indiana Jones is one of the greatest heroes in cinematic history, and we can’t wait to bring him back to the screen in 2019,” he said. “It’s rare to have such a perfect combination of director, producers, actor and role, and we couldn’t be more excited to embark on this adventure with Harrison and Steven.”
It looks like the whole Indiana Jones crew is back on board, with exception to one notable name. George Lucas played a major role in the previous four Indiana Jones films. It’s unknown if Lucas will have any involvement with this project, however. After Disney bought Lucasfilm in 2012, they didn’t use any of his ideas for The Force Awakens. Since Lucas won’t return to Star Wars, it may be safe to assume that he’s done with Indy too. Considering that most people blame him for the alien debacle in Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, fans probably aren’t too eager to see Lucas return for this outing anyway.
