Has Suicide Squad 2 found its director?
Reports suggest that Jaume Collet-Serra is the most likely contender to direct Suicide Squad 2.
According to Deadline, Collet-Serra is the front-runner to direct the sequel to the 2016 hit. Best known for directing thrillers such as The Shallows, Orphan, and several Liam Neeson pictures, he would be taking over for David Ayer, who helmed the previous installment. Mel Gibson is also apparently in contention, although fans aren’t exactly happy about that.
On one hand, you could argue that the first Suicide Squad set the bar pretty low, as it didn’t win over many critics. On the other hand, we technically have to call it the Academy Award-winning Suicide Squad. So can Collet-Serra score good reviews AND Oscar gold? We’ll find out when this sequel hits theaters in 2019.
