Hawkeye set to appear in Captain America: Civil War

The last time we saw Hawkeye, Jeremy Renner’s quippy archer, was in The Avengers back in 2012. Having been missed entirely for Phase Two of Marvel’s grand plan, he’s back in the game for upcoming sequel Avengers: Age of Ultron – and now, as we’ve learned, next year’s Captain America: Civil War too.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, rumours that Hawkeye would appear in Steve Rogers’ third solo outing are true; Renner will be shooting Civil War sometime this spring, along with Chris Evans as the eponymous Captain America. The movie, which will be directed by the Russo brothers (who helmed The Winter Soldier), is looking like it’s own mini-Avengers flick: so far, Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr) and Falcon (Anthony Mackie) will be showing their faces alongside Cap and Hawkeye, while Hawkeye’s confidante Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and newcomer Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) will also pop up. And hey, Spider-Man – who is not yet cast – is also heavily rumoured to make his debut appearance.

You could argue that so many characters would be overkill – but look how well The Avengers did. As such, the biggest challenge Captain America: Civil War will face will be how to mark itself out from those two Avengers movies. The film will be released May 6, 2016.
