Here’s why Colin Treverrow was fired from Star Wars: Episode IX
Following the departure of Colin Trevorrow from Star Wars: Episode IX, a new report has emerged revealing why the director was fired from the project. The report suggests that the director’s inflated ego created friction with Lucasfilm which was the main cause for his sacking.
An inside source told Vulture that Trevorrow was “difficult” to work with:
“He focused a great deal of his creative energies on asserting his opinion” [He was] unbearable [on Book of Henry.] He had an egotistical point of view—and he was always asserting that. If you rub Kathleen Kennedy the wrong way—in any way—you’re out. You’re done. A lot of these young, new directors want to come in and say, ‘I want to do this. I want to do that.’ A lot of these guys—Lord and Miller, Colin Trevorrow—got very rich, very fast and believed a lot of their own hype. And they don’t want to play by the rules.”
The studio recently released a statement about his departure:
“Lucasfilm and Colin Trevorrow have mutually chosen to part ways on Star Wars: Episode IX. Colin has been a wonderful collaborator throughout the development process but we have all come to the conclusion that our visions for the project differ.”
A new director has yet to be announced, although Episode 8’s Rian Johnson is reportedly the favorite. Star Wars: Episode IX will be released on May 24, 2019. First up is The Last Jedi, which opens on December 15. See its trailer below:
