How Many Game of Thrones Episodes Are Left?
Game of Thrones returns for its sixth season this Sunday. HBO has renewed the hit drama series for a seventh season and it’s expected to get an eighth season too. Exactly how many Game of Thrones episodes will be left after season six, though?
Executive Producers/Showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss recently told The Hollywood Reporter that there will be 10-15 episodes following this upcoming season’s finale.
“We’re not walking away. We’re approaching the finish line. From the outset, our hope was to tell a complete story — beginning, middle and end. We are writing the final act now, and the last thing we want to do is stay on stage after the play is over,” Benioff and Weiss said.
“In the beginning, we hoped that if the show worked, we’d get seven seasons to tell the tale. Seven kingdoms, seven gods, seven books — seven felt like a lucky number. The actual messiness of storytelling might not be quite that numerologically elegant, but we’re looking at somewhere between 70 and 75 hours before the credits roll for the last time,” the two added.
The past Game of Thrones seasons have all been 10 episodes each. It appears that season seven and the potential season eight will be shorter, however. In any case, we’re definitely going to savor every last episode until winter comes and goes.
