Independence Day sequel is on the cards

Although Will Smith ruled himself out earlier this year, his former flight partner Jeff Goldblum is happily on board for the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 sci-fi thriller Independence Day. “I had a meeting and have been talking over the last several months or year with Roland Emmerich and Dean Devlin, the producer, and they’ve been cooking up and say they have a part for me in what they hope will be a plan to make another one pretty soon,” Goldblum told TIME.com this week. Devlin and Emmerich have mapped out the sequel as a two-parter with the working titles being ID Forever Part I and Part II. They will reportedly pick up the narrative 20 years on from the original story, finding the aliens returning to Earth for another round of explosive carnage.
