Indiana Jones cinematographer Douglas Slocombe dies age 103

With the sad news of the passing of Close Encounters of the Third Kind cinematographer Vilmos Zsigmond earlier this year, another Steven Spielberg stalwart has died: Douglas Slocombe, at the age of 103. The director of photography worked on all three original Indiana Jones movies – Raiders of the Lost Ark, The Temple of Doom, The Last Crusade – the latter of which was also his final credit as cinematographer.

Other well-known work of his include 1974’s The Great Gatsby, The Italian Job, and Kind Hearts and Coronets (his personal favourite). Slocombe was nominated for an Academy Award three times, won three BAFTAs, plus the British Society of CInematographers’ lifetime achievement award in 1995.
