Is Prometheus 2 Holding back Alien 5?

Alien 5 is underway with Neill Blomkamp of District 9 acting as director and writer. According to Bloody Disgusting, however, Ridley Scott is insisting that Prometheus 2 be made first. As we all know, Scott directed the original Alien and returned to direct 2012’s sort-of prequel. Scott won’t start filming Prometheus 2 until January 2016 with a 2017 release date planned, meaning Alien 5 could be delayed until 2018. This may not be such a bad thing, though, as it will give Blomkamp more time to develop the script and allow Sigourney Weaver to wrap up her work on the Avatar sequels.

Alien 5 will also apparently ignore the events of Alien³ and Alien: Resurrection, giving the franchise a shot at redemption. Resetting the clock worked out pretty well for X-Men: Days of Future Past. Of course it kind of backfired on Terminator Genisys. For now, we’re pumped for Ellen Ripley’s comeback in Alien 5 as well as Elizabeth Shaw’s return in Prometheus 2. Which sequel are you looking forward to the most?
