It contributes to biggest September ever
August might’ve been a low point for 2017’s box office returns, but Stephen King’s It has made this September one for the record books.
According to Box Office Mojo, It climbed back to the top of the box office this weekend, making $17.3 million and $291.18 overall domestically. The film largely contributed to the the domestic total for September, which reached an all time high at $694.9 million. That’s about $70 million more that the previous record held by 2015, which saw the release of Hotel Transylvania 2.
While the month has had other box office successes like Kingsman: The Golden Circle, there’s no denying that It is responsible for breaking this record. Seeing how It: Chapter Two is set to come out on September 6, 2019, it probably won’t be long until the record is broken yet again.
