IT is killing it at the box office

IT has begun it’s run in killer form with a record-breaking September/Fall opening at the US box office. The movie brought in a frightfully large $117, an injection which cinema really needed at this time, and a cements 2017 as the year of horror movies, representing the largest opening weekend for a horror film of all time.

Internationally the movie has already almost grossed $0.2B, according to Box Office Mojo. So IT should ease past the $0.5B mark, which would make it one of the most successful horror movies of all time, not accounting for inflation. It will be exciting to see how many records IT does end up breaking – it’s already close to breaking The Green Mile‘s lifetime domestic cume of $136,801,374, which is the current top dog for a Stephen King movie. It’s also showing that there is still a real thirst for cinema which gives us something we can’t really get by watching a movie at home, so expect to see many more horrors and horror genre mashups over the next year or two.
