It looks like Jared Leto will be bringing back another 80s classic
With Jared Leto crawling all over Hollywood right now, it seems he’ll bringing back another franchise from the dead following his role in Blade Runner 2049. Leto confirmed he’s in talks with Disney in bringing another instalment of Tron to the big screen.
Tron: Legacy was released some 7 years ago now, with a trilogy in mind it never came to fruition due to its mixed reviews and poor run at the box office. Tron Legacy only managed a 51% on Rotten Tomatoes and $400 million worldwide on a budget of $170 million. Unlike Blade Runner, it didn’t receive sweeping critical acclaim or an academy conversation. It’s not hard to see why Disney shelved the franchise.
However, when talking to Collider, Leto said
“It was a huge movie for me as well and I do think there’s so much potential in that world, there so much left to be said, I’m absolutely game to try to help in any way that I can bring that to life. It’s something that we’re in discussions about and very much looking forward to bringing to reality. It’s very early days though.”
There’s no director, no script and not even any producers confirmed yet (in this case Leto would be producing if the project ever gets to the conveyer belt). It seems like an unnecessary risk for Disney but if they can market the film well on a smaller budget whilst appealing to a specific audience, it’s certainly possible a Tron 3 can happen.
