IT projected to be biggest September opening of all time

According to Variety, early box office tracking suggests that the upcoming movie adaptation of Stephen King’s IT will make around $50 million in its opening domestic weekend. If it manages to do so, it will become the biggest September opening of all time, overtaking 2015’s Hotel Transylvania 2, which made $48 million on its debut.

The site does claim however that “sources close to the studio caution that the $50 million-plus number could be inflated.” See the top 5 September openings below via Box Office Mojo:
