It star discusses alternate ending
2017’s It seemed to leave our young heroes on a fitting note that set things up for Chapter 2. However, actor Jaeden Lieberher, who played Bill, says that the Stephen King adaption almost had a slightly different final act… oh, before we move on, SPOILERS!
The film ultimately works up to a climax where the Losers’ Club defeats Pennywise together. Speaking with Variety, Lieberher revealed that this scene was originally going to be a final showdown between just Bill and the Dancing Clown.
“I did have this scene where I climb up the tower at the end,” Lieberher said. “When I’m chasing after Georgie, I climb the tower and I’m at a one-on-one confrontation with Pennywise and then I say that I’m not afraid of him, that none of the losers are afraid of him, and that’s how we beat him. But they took those lines and put toward the end, right after our big fight. So I had this whole thing where Bill Skarsgard is grabbing me and pushing me off the ledge, and I had to wear this harness. That was a more difficult scene.”
Do you think this ending sounds better than the one that made it into the finished film? Either way, It was perhaps always destined to be the monster hit it is.
