J.J. Abrams says Episode VIII script is so good he wishes he’d written it

J.J. Abrams’ longtime friend Greg Grunberg, who plays Snap Wexley in The Force Awakens, has revealed to The Washington Post that J.J. Abrams has read the script for the next Star Wars movie, and his reaction to it was such that he has “never hear[d] him express regret like that”. According to Grunberg:

“He read it and said something he never, ever says.” He said it’s “so good” that he wished he had written it.

Grunberg goes on to say that the only other time he’s heard J.J. Abrams make a similar comment was “one time on Lost, wth Damon [Lindelof, the co-creator]”.

So a ringing endorsement from the filmmaker for the next installment in the Star Wars franchise then, which we know begins shooting in January with a targeted release of 26 May 2017. Rian Johnson has written the the screenplay and will also direct – he did the same on 2012’s rather excellent Sci-Fi flick, Looper.
