J.J. Abrams says Who Framed Roger Rabbit 2 was once in the works, Portal and Half-Life movies still are
In 1988 Robert Zemeckis brought the iconic live action/animation crossover Who Framed Roger Rabbit to the world. And it’s now been revealed that just a year later, J.J. Abrams and Steven Spielberg came very close to making a sequel.
Abrams met Spielberg, who was a producer on the original movie, and they discussed a potential follow-up film.
Abrams told Nerdist: “I went into a meeting… actually, it was for a Roger Rabbit sequel. It was a whole thing. I actually have some storyboards for a Roger Rabbit short. Honestly, we never really got to that phase [where things got serious].”
The Star Wars director went onto add: “We were writing an outline, but it honestly went away before it was anything. This was a long time ago; Zemeckis probably would’ve been a producer on it. This was 1989.”
So although that movie never got made, Abrams has revealed two films that are most definitely in the works… Movie adaptations of the popular sci-fi games Portal and Half-Life.
Abrams told IGN: “They’re in development and we’ve got writers, and we’re working on both those stories.”
Movies based on the games were first hinted at in 2013. And now they’re in the pre-production stages, we can expect more updates in the near future.
