James Gunn teases Guardians Vol. 3 and Avengers 4 possibilities
We spoke a little about who may die in Avengers 4 as a consequence of Infinity War, but a larger just as frequent question we have about the MCU is, what’s going to happen after Thanos? Where is there left to go? Guardians of The Galaxy director James Gunn responded to a fan via Twitter yesterday who forecast the absolute end of Marvel Universe after Avengers 4.
In which Gunn replied,
“No. Read Kevin Feige’s quotes and not the static around them. It’s the end of one long story & the beginning of another.
He continued…
“And one of the films that will kickstart the new story will be Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3. One of the things I’m doing with creating Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 — it will take place after the next two Avengers movies — and it will help to set up the next 10, 20 years of Marvel movies. It’s going to really expand the cosmic universe.”
As we know, the MCU will forego massive changes and shifts after the events of Avengers 4. With Gunn’s comments on the expansion of the cosmic side of the universe, this might mean we get more cosmic style stories, movies like Thor Ragnarok which pick up characters and drop them into environments we’re not used to. With a Spider-Man sequel set for release after Avengers 4, it’s possible we may see Peter Parker return to space (he’ll appear as an Avenger in Infinity War, in space).
Avengers Infinity War swings into UK cinemas April 2018. While Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3 doesn’t have an official date just yet, James Gunn returns to write and direct.
