JJ Abrams’ God Particle pushed back, re-named ‘2017 Cloverfield Film’
Earlier this year, JJ Abrams announced he was producing a film called God Particle, set for release sometime early 2017. With the massive surprise of 10 Cloverfield Lane being a sequel of sorts to Cloverfield after it was created under the name ‘The Celler’. Rumours have sprouted that God Particle would be another addition to the ever-growing original franchise.
Now, Paramount have seemingly confirmed those rumours. God Particle has been moved back in their release schedule to October 2017. With the title no longer being God Particle on their release slate, but now appearing as ‘2017 Cloverfield film’.
God Particle (If I can still call it that) features a stellar cast, starring; David Oyelowo, Gugu Mbatha Raw, Daniel Bruhl and Chris O’Dowd. Principal photography wrapped up some time earlier this year. The official synopsis on IMDB states, ‘A shocking discovery forces a team of astronauts aboard a space station to fight for survival while their reality has been altered.’
It’s the most interesting concept of a franchise since Marvel decided to create a shared cinematic universe. The first film, Cloverfield, was a found footage monster movie, whilst it’s sequel, 10 Cloverfield Lane which was well received by critics earlier this year, was a thriller. Abrams is creating a franchise that isn’t necessarily tied down by returning characters, genre or linear story. All we know is this is the same earth we were introduced to in the first film.
There’s probably no need to catch up before watching God Particle, however, the first two Cloverfield films are available to buy on DVD and Blu-Ray. God Particle will be directed by Julius Onah, based on a screenplay by Oren Uziel and Doug Jung. Just to reiterate, God Particle is set for release, October 2017.
