JJ Abrams returning to write and direct Star Wars: Episode IX
JJ Abrams has been announced as the director of Star Wars: Episode IX, following the departure of Colin Trevorrow. Abrams helmed The Force Awakens and will return to write and direct The Last Jedi’s sequel. The news was made official on the Star Wars website and Twitter:
“With The Force Awakens, J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy in an official statement.
Star Wars: Episode 9 is scheduled for 24 May 2019.
