John Boyega has been cast in the sequel to Pacific Rim and will act as a producer as well.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Star Wars actor is playing the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost. In addition to Boyega, the project will also be produced by Guillermo del Toro.
“I am very proud and happy to welcome John into a fantastic sandbox,” del Toro told Variety. “The Pacific Rim universe will be reinforced with him as a leading man as it continues to be a multicultural, multilayered world.”
Del Toro, who of course directed the first Pacific Rim, also stated that he couldn’t “think of a better man for the job.”
Directed by Steven DeKnight of Daredevil, Pacific Rim 2 will hit theaters… hopefully sooner than later…
