Johnny Depp May Star in Triple Frontier
Now that Johnny Depp has officially finished shooting the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean movie, Variety reports that the actor may be taking on a new role in Triple Frontier. This crime thriller will focus on the South African drug trade. In addition to Depp, roles have also been offered to Tom Hanks and Will Smith. Triple Frontier was originally going to be directed by Kathryn Bigelow of The Hurt Locker, but J.C. Chandor of A Most Violent Year has now taken over.
Considering his performance as George Jung in Blow, this project sounds like it would be right up Depp’s alley. The actor received universal praise last September for his performance as James ‘Whitey’ Bulger in Black Mass. Since some of his other recent films have bombed big time, Depp could certainly use another hit. If he does sign on Triple Frontier, let’s hope it contributes to his comeback.
