Jude Law is the perfect choice for young Dumbledore

Yesterday, Jude Law was announced to play young Dumbledore in the upcoming Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them films and here’s why we think he is the perfect choice for the part.

The news was announced by Toby Emmerich, President and Chief Content Officer, Warner Bros. Pictures:

“As fans ourselves, we are thrilled to have Jude Law joining the ‘Fantastic Beasts’ cast, playing a character so universally adored.  Jude has been a member of the Warner Bros. family for years and we’re excited to embark on this new adventure with him.”

Director David Yates added:

“Jude Law is a phenomenally talented actor whose work I have long admired, and I’m looking forward to finally having the opportunity to work with him.  I know he will brilliantly capture all the unexpected facets of Albus Dumbledore as J.K. Rowling reveals this very different time in his life.”

It’s music to our ears as we already revealed last year that Law was our first choice for the role in our previous podcast:

“I think Jude Law would be a really good choice, he’s got that mischievous kind of glint in his eyes which is what Michael Gambon and Richard Harris had. He’s right at the top of my list” our expert Stefan said.

The Sherlock actor has all the right qualities for the part. Although Richard Harris’ son Jared would have been the obvious choice, at the age of 55, they would have to of made him look much younger for the films to make it work. Jude Law is 11 years younger and so fits the bill.

Dumbledore is a warm, gentle man but has great presence and power. There is great mystery to the man and a vulnerable side that they may well explore in Fantastic Beasts. Jude Law is certainly capable of portraying all this. He has matured as an actor with impressive performances in recent drama’s Side Effects and Black Sea, while showing his versatility in HBO’s The Young Pope.

The stage truly is set for Law, and we can see him as young Dumbledore when Fantastic Beasts 2 arrives on November 16th 2018.
