Jurrasic World was already set to be a sequel, not only was this just assumed due to the character of cinema today but the fact it was an unexpected smash hit at the box office, currently residing 4th in the list of highest grossing films ever made, with $1.6 billion worldwide (not accounting inflation), the director of the sequel JA Bayona has come out and confirmed it will be a trilogy of films paying homage to Spielberg’s original.

In a recent interview, the Spanish director had this to say about production of the sequel to Jurassic World; “I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”

Bayona is well known for his work on Gothic Horror series Penny Dreadful, as well as his films A Monster Calls and The Orphanage. It’s expected his take on the Jurrasic World franchise will be much darker and ‘grittier’ than previous installments.

With Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard returning for lead roles, Jurrasic World 2 (for lack of a better name) will hit UK cinemas on the 8th June 2018 .
