Kirsten Dunst talks Spider-Man; says “everyone likes” their version of the superhero
With the impending release of Spider-Man: Homecoming getting closer and closer, many have begun to reminisce about Spider-Men past. Some fans enjoy the Sam Raimi trilogy of films more than any others, while others have said that the Andrew Garfield/Marc Webb duo of films were much more fitting to the character.
Well one former Spidey alum has had her say on the history and indeed future of the titular web-slinger and says that the original film is still the best. Actress Kirsten Dunst, who played Mary-Jane Watson in the three Raimi/Tobey Maguire films, has said she has no lasting interest in the other films and says that the majority of fans and audiences prefer their films over all others.
Speaking to Variety whilst promoting her new film The Beguiled along with writer/director Sofia Coppola, the actress said:
“I don’t care. Everyone likes our ‘Spider-Man.’ C’mon, am I right or what? Listen, I’d rather be in the first ones than the new ones.”
Indeed all the subsequent remakes may have been null and void had Sam Raimi and Sony went ahead and made the long-mooted Spider-Man 4, which was in pre-production before the first reboot, The Amazing Spider-Man, was released in 2012.
The Beguiled is released on July 14th.
