Downsizing was set to star Reese Witherspoon in the leading lady role but she has been forced to drop out due to a scheduling conflict. However all is not lost as THR reports that she will be replaced by Kristen Wiig.
Alexander Payne wrote the script and will direct the film. The story follows Matt Damon, low on money, deciding that life would be a lot cheaper and easier if he undergoes a procedure to shrink himself. Travelling through life as a tiny person, he meets Wiig’s character at a commune for the similarly size-reduced.
Production will begin shortly with a release expected sometime next year.
