Kurt Russell talks Escape From New York and Big Trouble in Little China remakes
Let’s face it, there aren’t many people in Hollywood that are cooler than Kurt Russell. A powerhouse of acting brilliance and cool over the past four decades, the actor has found a new life in amongst two of the biggest franchises in the world right now: Fast and the Furious and Guardians of the Galaxy/Marvel.
Indeed, by the end of 2017, it will probably transpire that Russell is the biggest box-office star of the year – Fast and Furious 8, which sees the actor reprise his role of Mr. Nobody, has already grossed over $900million worldwide in less than two weeks of release and now, Guardians 2 is set to storm the charts from this weekend in the UK.
But with many classic films in his catalogue, Russell is seeing some his previous works set for the remake treatment with Robert Rodriguez set to remake Escape From New York and Dwayne Johnson linked to a Big Trouble in Little China reboot. And speaking to NME at last night’s Guardians 2 UK premiere, Russell said that nothing is sacred in Hollywood these days:
“‘Escape From New York’, ‘Big Trouble In Little China’, ‘Overboard’ – they’ve already done some. Nothing is sacred. You just have to try to hopefully find a way to make a movie where it makes sense why you did a remake – that’s all.”
That said, Russell did say back in 2015 that he was “OK” with news that a Big Trouble… remake was set to be remade. Whether any of these films come to fruition remains to be seen.
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol.2 opens in UK cinemas this Friday, April 28th; Fast and Furious 8 is in cinemas now
