Only last month the German car manufacturer admitted 11 million of its diesel vehicles worldwide are fitted with software that beat emission tests and now Variety reports that there’s already a film in the works about the scandal.
Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson have come aboard to produce Paramount’s film, based on the forthcoming book by Jack Ewing.
Ewing is a writer for the International New York Times and the author of the snappily titled Germany’s Economic Renaissance. Publishers Norton snapped up his pitch for a book on the VW saga for a reported six figures.
Ewing’s book doesn’t exist yet, so the film is obviously some way off with no writers, directors or cast attached so far.
DiCaprio has produced a number of environmental documentaries including the 2014 films Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret and Virunga, about the battle to save the last of the world’s mountain gorillas so it’s no surprise to see him get involved with this project.
