With Logan shaping up to be one of the best movies of the year, it’s quickly solidifying itself as a comic book movie classic. Everyone’s been wondering if FOX will ever revisit any of the characters or even the timeline from the film. Director James Mangold, producer Hutch Parker and Hugh Jackman weighed in on the possibility of any future films on the same storyline. Of course, the first character to pop up was X-23.
“Patty Jenkins’ success with Wonder Woman only solidifies more for studios that there’s less to fear with a female protagonist, The more that keeps getting hit home, that ends up giving me more space turning around and going, ‘Well here we are with a female protagonist. That’s incredible. And what are we going to do with her?’ And that’s where we are with that [the Laura script] right now, dreaming.”
X-23 is a well-known character in the comics, even taking up the Wolverine title and costume for a whole year, there are plenty of opportunities for her. X-23 could go anywhere from here, she could join the X-Men or begin her own new mission saving other mutants from government projects. Parker even went as far to suggest he ‘doesn’t know what genre the movie will be.’
With New Mutants, Logan and Deadpool, Fox has been exploring and expanding the genres of comic book films in a way that’s been creating so much freedom for the filmmakers and writers. It’s refreshing, even though X-Men: Apocolypse was a bit of a dud. It seems there are only more exciting things to come from Fox, their slate currently includes X-Men: Dark Pheonix, The New Mutants, Deadpool 2, X-Force and Gambit.
