M. Night Shyamalan has teased his new project on Twitter…

****SPOILERS FOLLOW FOR THOSE WHO HAVEN’T SEEN SPLIT YET****

Split has been a massive hit for everyone involved, not just writer/director M. Night Shyamalan – still atop the US box office, the film has now taken almsot $150million worldwide and may well top the $200million mark in the next week or two. Not bad for a film that only cost around $9million to make.

It will come as no surprise then that Shymalan is busy at work on his next project and has teased on Twitter that he is well on the way to completing his first putline of said film:

Well M. Night, we have seen Split and it comes as no surprise to us (and indeed many fans of the film) that the new project will be its follow-up which, consequently, will be Unbreakable 2. How the sequel will play out as a story remains to be seen, but it seems the director will be uniting James McAvoy, Bruce Willis and Samuel L. Jackson for the film. Speaking to ComingSoon.net during the promotion tour for Split, he said:

I have every intention of doing one more. I can’t guarantee it, because I’m a writer and I don’t really write for other people. The only reason I can’t guarantee it is, because I don’t know what the demons are going to do when I get into the room. They may shut me down. They may not come out. I think the reason I’ve never done a sequel and never even been interested is because I don’t like knowing. I want to tell you a new story each time. I don’t know if those things are going to grab me and freeze me, but I have every intention of doing that. I’m hoping I don’t freeze up.

I think the ‘Unbreakable’ world is about finding the extraordinary in the ordinary. That’s kind of Elijah’s thesis. That excites me when we’re talking about maybe another one. What would Elijah’s reaction be to Kevin Wendell Crumb? He’d be like, ‘I knew it!’ (laughs).

Split is in cinemas now.
