The long-awaited sequel to 2013’s Maleficent, Disney’s live-action remake/re-telling of Sleeping Beauty, may still be on the cards after writer Jez Butterworth was signed on to re-write the script, says The Tracking Board.
Butterworth, who has worked on the script’s for Spectre, Edge of Tomorrow and Black Mass, has previously worked with Disney as he re-wrote the upcoming Cruella, which stars Oscar Winner Emma Stone as the villainess title character in a similarly re-tooled version of 101 Dalmatians.
The question remains: will Angelina Jolie return in the title role for the sequel? Word from the site is that she will indeed be back for the follow-up, which Joe Roth is producing, but her involvement is dependant on her own busy schedule.
Disney is busy with many live-action remakes right now after the success of Beauty and The Beast earlier this year ($1.263billion) – The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo, Pocahontas, and Mulan, as well as the aforementioned Cruella, are all in production at the moment with 2018 and 2019 set to be very busy for the studio.
