According to Variety, Oscar-winner Marisa Tomei has been cast as Aunt May in Marvel and Sony’s upcoming Spider-Man movie. At the age of 50, Tomei is significantly younger than the previous actresses that have portrayed Peter Parker’s mother figure. Rosemary Harris was 74 when Sam Raimi’s original Spider-Man film came out in 2002 while Sally Field was 65 when Marc Webb’s The Amazing Spider-Man hit theaters in 2012. Then again, 19-year-old Tom Holland is younger than Tobey Maguire or Andrew Garfield were when they initially landed the role of Spider-Man/Peter Parker. So it only makes sense that Aunt May would be younger too.

While the Spider-Man reboot won’t come out until July 28, 2017, Holland will make his debut as Spidey in Captain America: Civil War on May 6, 2016.
