Mark Wahlberg will return for Transformers 5
Whatever your thoughts are on the Transformers franchise, there is one aspect about them you can’t dispute: they make a lot of money. So who could blame Mark Wahlberg, who starred in this year’s billion-dollar grossing Transformers: Age of Extinction, for reprising his role for the fifth movie? Wahlberg played Cade Yeager, a wily inventor who discovers the dormant Optimus Prime in an abandoned cinema, and is likely to return as him when Transformers 5 gets round to filming – and perhaps even the sixth film, too. In an interview with MTV, the actor said, ‘Yeah, I committed to doing a couple more… you know I can’t speak for Mr. Bay, but something tells me we’ll be on the set soon.’ This is interesting, as this tosses up the possibility of Michael Bay returning as director – even though the explosion-happy auteur stated he wanted to pass the franchise onto someone else. For fans of the Transformers series, this is surely good news – but for everyone else, it may end up being just another two-hour smashathon.
