Martin Freeman joins the cast of Captain America: Civil War
And that cast just keeps getting bigger and bigger. Marvel themselves have confirmed that Martin Freeman will be coming aboard Captain America: Civil War – but of course, there is no clue as to what role he’ll fill. We don’t imagine he’ll end up playing one of the spandex-sporting heroes themselves; a politician caught in the superhero crossfire, perhaps? There’s one thing we’re certain of already, at least: he’ll be a memorable supporting character.
Freeman has slowly become one of the world’s biggest (and best) actors, having most recently starred in the final instalment of The Hobbit series as Bilbo Baggins, while he’s also appeared on huge TV shows such as Fargo and Sherlock (will he share some screen time with his detective friend, Benedict Cumberbatch as Doctor Strange?) Marvel head Kevin Feige had this to say of Freeman’s addition to the cast in their announcement:
‘From his roles as Bilbo Baggins and Doctor Watson to Tim in ‘The Office,’ Martin’s range from the dramatic to the comedic has consistently impressed us… We couldn’t be more honored or excited to have such a talented actor join the Marvel Cinematic Universe.’
With shooting on the film already underway, and a cast that just seems to keep on growing, Captain America: Civil War keeps sounding like a particularly exciting prospect. The film is released May 6, 2016.
