Marvel stars sign up for The Lion King remake
Disney’s live-action The Lion King remake has added two Marvel actors to play Simba’s mother Sarabi and his royal adviser Rafiki. According to TheWrap, John Kani, who starred in Captain America: Civil War as Black Panther’s father King T’Chaka, will voice Rafiki.
While according to The Hollywood Reporter, Luke Cage‘s Alfre Woodard, who plays the villainous Mariah Dillard in the Netflix series, will voice Sarabi.
The pair join an already impressive cast which includes Donald Glover as Simba, John Oliver as Zazu, James Earl Jones as Mufasa, Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, and Billy Eichner as Timon. Doctor Strange‘s Chiwetel Ejiofor is reportedly in talks to play the film’s villain Scar.
Jon Favreau’s The Lion King hits theaters on July 19, 2019.
