Masks and Weapons Banned from Force Awakens Screenings
If you were planning on wearing a Kylo Ren mask or bringing a toy thermal detonator to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, we’ve got some bad news. According to TheWrap, AMC and Cinemark won’t be allowing any masks or fake weapons during screenings.
“AMC does not permit weapons or items that would make other guests feel uncomfortable or detract from the movie-going experience,” AMC said on their website. “Guests are welcome to come dressed in costume, but we do not permit masks,” AMC’s statement adds. “In short, bring your lightsaber, turn it off during the movie, and leave the blaster and Darth Vader mask at home.”
Cinemark won’t even be allowing lightsabers in screenings. According the company’s posters: “Star Wars costumes are welcome. However, no face coverings, face paint, or simulated weapons (including lightsabers/blasters) will be allowed in the building.”
This shouldn’t come as a surprise after the tragic shooting during a screening of The Dark Knight Rises in 2012. It makes sense that movie theaters would want to take certain precautions, although it is a shame we won’t be able to bring our fake blasters. Oh well, we’ll just have to bring walkie talkies.
