Matt Damon says Bourne 5 is set in a “post-Snowden” world

Revealing new details on the Bourne sequel which will see him return to the role of the titular character, Matt Damon has told New York Daily News that the film will be set in a “post-Snowden” world. Of the character, he notes that, while Jason Bourne has got his memories back, it “doesn’t mean he knows everything”. And addressing the plot of this installment in the context of the franchise at large, he says:

“It’s 12 years since Jason Bourne has been on the grid. So we have to answer the questions, Where’s he been? What’s he doing? What gets him going again? So once we solved all that, then we had a movie.”

Bourne 5 is due for release on 29 July 2016 in the US.
