Matt Damon will star for Alexander Payne in Downsizing

In recent years, Alexander Payne has proven himself a true prestige filmmaker; over the last decade, he’s given us SidewaysThe Descendants, and most recently Nebraska, all modern classic dramas that look at life in profound, humane ways. His newest project, Downsizing, takes a more science-fiction slant, and Matt Damon has just signed on to star. Damon will play a man who realises that life has gotten too hectic, and opts to get himself and his wife shrunk down to make it all more manageable; unfortunately, at the last moment, his wife changes her mind, leaving Damon’s character not just tiny, but alone. Downsizing was originally planned to star Paul Giamatti and Reese Witherspoon as husband and wife as far back as 2009, with Sacha Baron Cohen also set to appear – but now that Damon is now set to star for Payne, who’s no stranger to sci-fi after The Adjustment Bureau and Elysium, more details about the cast and plot should emerge soon.
