Matt Reeves to direct The Batman, can he revive the franchise?
Warner Bros. has reportedly replaced Ben Affleck with Matt Reeves as The Batman‘s director.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Reeves is in talks for the role, after the studio offered him the job. Reeves is best known for directing Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and Cloverfield.
THR says their sources discovered that “multiple conversations occurred with the director and the studio in a meeting on Friday.” While the outlet also reports that “other directors remain in the wings, including Ridley Scott and Don’t Breathe director Fede Alvarez.”
Affleck remains aboard to play Bruce Wayne/Batman. He also co-wrote the script, which Argo‘s Chris Terrio recently rewrote. However, “several sources say that the script may undergo [another] significant overhaul,” THR added.
After the caped crusader’s last outing in Batman v Superman, disappointed many. Warner Bros. will be hoping that Reeves can help revive the franchise with The Batman. The film is expected to start shooting later this year, although a release date is yet to be announced.
