Oscar-winner Mel Gibson recently revealed that he was offered the role of Odin in Thor. He turned down the part, however, and Thor’s father was ultimately played by Anthony Hopkins in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

“Yeah, long time ago, to play Thor’s dad,” Gibson told The Guardian.

It should also be noted that Gibson is friends with Robert Downey Jr. After years of career setbacks, Downey Jr.’s turn as Tony Stark in Iron Man was considered the ultimate comeback performance. One can’t help but wonder if an MCU role could’ve helped Gibson, who’s better known these days for his controversial behavior off-screen.
