Mel Gibson working on The Passion of the Christ sequel
Mel Gibson is planning a sequel to his controversial The Passion of the Christ (2004) movie, which will tell the story of Jesus’ resurrection. The news comes by way of The Hollywood Reporter, who were informed of the news by Braveheart writer Randall Wallace, who has started working on the script alongside Gibson. According to the outlet, he reluctantly revealed the news because ‘the project is becoming too difficult to keep under wraps.’
The Passion of the Christ is the most successful independent film of all time, having grossed a massive $612 million on a budget of only $30 million. The pair reportedly started work on the sequel whilst working together on Hacksaw Ridge, which Gibson has directed and Wallace co-written. That (World War II-set) film is due to release later on this year, on November 4 in the US.
