With an entire franchise built on Ghostbusters now planned – with Channing Tatum reportedly leading his own spin-off – there is still little that has been revealed about the first film, essentially a reboot, set to open July 22, 2016. Luckily for us, Melissa McCarthy has given her own opinion on the film, in which she will co-star with Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones as a group of female Ghostbusters. Speaking with Total Film about director Paul Feig’s take on the classic property, and whether she believes he and the cast will give the movie a ‘fresh flavour’, she commented:

‘Absolutely. For sure. Yes because it’s a female cast, but also because [he] is going to put a really modern, current twist on it. It will be scary and have good action. He pulls from the classics but he’s a very modern director. I truly believe they could not have picked a better director to launch that franchise.’

This is in line with Paul Feig’s previous comments that he wanted to make his Ghostbusters more of a horror film with comedy elements, as opposed to the original’s blend of deadpan comedy and PG-rated gruesomeness – but it’s always nice to have an actor of considerable comedic talent like McCarthy have such a positive opinion on what is planned.
