Michael Caine’s secret cameo in Dunkirk revealed
Dunkirk director Christopher Nolan has revealed that Michael Caine had a secret cameo in the World War 2 film. The iconic filmmaker says he was surprised that people hadn’t noticed Caine with “one of the most distinctive voices in cinema.”
Caine’s voice can briefly be heard in the film as the officer that Tom Hardy’s RAF pilot hears over his radio.
Nolan was asked about the cameo by NJ.com:
“Yes, good for you for spotting him. It’s shocking to me that a lot of people haven’t, when he has really one of the most distinctive voices in cinema. I wanted very much to squeeze him in here. It’s a bit of a nod to his character in ‘Battle of Britain’. And also, it’s Michael. He has to be in all my films, after all.” he said.
“I wanted very much to squeeze him in. Michael has to be in all my films.”
Caine has now appeared in seven consecutive Nolan movies, starting with 2005’s Batman Begins. And the Alfie actor admits he’ll always accept any part Nolan offers him:
“I’d play any part he writes for me, no matter how big it is. He regards me as his good-luck charm. He’s wrong. He’s my good luck charm.” Caine told Vulture.
